SABIS® History & Achievements
History
In 1886, two visionaries with a shared passion for education and its potential to secure the financial future of a nation conceived the SABIS® educational philosophy. Established in the 19th century but designed to adapt to a changing world, this educational philosophy took root in the International School of Choueifat in a suburb of Beirut, Lebanon. The school, which was started to provide basic education for Lebanese girls, soon became co-educational in response to market demand.
From modest beginnings, SABIS® grew rapidly throughout the 20th century. The first overseas expansion came in 1975 through a private school in the United Arab Emirates, while England’s first SABIS® school opened in Bath in the 1980s, in the same decade that the U.S. welcomed its inaugural institution. By the 1990s, SABIS® schools were being established everywhere from Germany to Pakistan.
Today, SABIS® provides high-quality education to students in 15 countries on four continents, including North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Achievements
SABIS®’s 125-year track record in managing and operating schools around the world is reflected in several achievements. Every year, SABIS® students around the network achieve outstanding results on a variety of international external exams including the American Advanced Placement exams as well as SAT, the British IGCSE, O-Level, AS and A Level exams, TOEFL exams, and, on a more limited scale, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. With outstanding academic results, graduates from SABIS® schools gain entry each year to the world’s most competitive universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and Stanford. A reflection of the rich educational foundation SABIS® afforded them, SABIS® students go on to distinguish themselves in the field of sciences, medicine, business, and the arts, among others.
