As a global school management organization, SABIS® operates Pre-K and K-12 schools in 15 countries on four continents. The schools, which are designed to provide a high-quality education for all students, are found in both the private and public arenas and serve thousands of students worldwide.
The International School of Choueifat–Cairo (ISC-Cairo), located in Cairo, Egypt, is one of two member schools in Egypt that are part of the global SABIS® School Network. Opened in 1995 with an enrollment of 290 students, ISC-Cairo currently boasts an enrollment of more than 1,600. As a K-12 school, ISC-Cairo strives to prepare all its students for success in college and beyond.
This is a story of a student who has benefitted from her SABIS® experience and acquired a love of learning and a deep interest in serving others.
Having joined ISC-Cairo as a student in Kindergarten 1 in 1997, Elizabeth Boctor has spent the last 14 years of her academic career at the school and has come away positively influenced. "ISC-Cairo has basically shaped who I've become…and I must say I am proud of that person," said Elizabeth. She continued, "It has made me realize how important education is…My eagerness to learn, and gain more knowledge has been wired in me by this school and I think that this will stay with me throughout my career and life in general."
Elizabeth was enthusiastic about learning throughout her time at ISC-Cairo, and by senior year she had taken most of the external exams available through the school. "I’ve taken APs, IGCSEs, SAT 1, a couple of SAT 2s, DELF, and IELTS and definitely am proud of myself for being able to take them all. I couldn't have done the external exams without ISC-Cairo's advanced curriculum," explained Elizabeth.
In addition to her impressive academic diligence, Elizabeth dedicated herself to serving her school community. From roles as a head prefect and Shadow Teacher® to launching the SLO™ mini-camp and school magazine, The Inside View, Elizabeth played key roles at ISC-Cairo and was a role model for many. "As a member of SLO™, Elizabeth has been a fantastic example for other students in our school. Elizabeth is a self-starter and works tirelessly in both her academic studies and extracurricular activities. She gives 110% and does it with enthusiasm," stated ISC-Cairo Student Life Coordinator, Ms. Cindy Riedlinger.
Commenting on what she gained from her experience in SLO™, Elizabeth said, "It has given me all the leadership, debate, and organizational skills that I will definitely need throughout my career. It has exposed me to different experiences that I wouldn't have otherwise experienced."
Elizabeth’s efforts in her studies and extracurricular activities created a bright future for her. In fact, her achievements at ISC-Cairo facilitated her admission into Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar where she will pursue a medical degree. "My life is about getting to the top of the education ladder and that is something I owe to ISC-Cairo." After studying at Weill Cornell Medical College, Elizabeth plans to attend medical school and become a physician.
