The story of SABIS® dates back to 1886 when The International School of Choueifat was founded in the village of Choueifat, a suburb of Beirut, Lebanon. There, the founders Reverend Tanios Saad and Ms. Louisa Proctor brought together their vision, dedication, and ambition to provide basic education for Lebanese girls. Soon thereafter, the school became co-educational in response to market demand.
Despite two world wars, The International School of Choueifat continued to grow over the years and embarked upon an expansion program outside Lebanon in the mid-1970s. The expansion was met with substantial success and by the 1990's, SABIS® schools were being established from Germany to Pakistan. Today, SABIS® provides high-quality education to students in 15 countries on four continents, including North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
SABIS®'s 128-year track record in managing and operating schools around the world is reflected in several achievements. Every year, SABIS® students achieve outstanding results on a variety of international external exams including the American Advanced Placement exam, the SAT, the British IGCSE, O-Level, AS and A Level exams, TOEFL exams, and, on a more limited scale, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Year after year, SABIS® network-wide performance averages on all these exams far exceeds global performance averages.
With outstanding academic results, graduates from SABIS® schools gain entry each year to the world's most competitive universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and Stanford. The rich educational foundation SABIS® provides for its students, is reflected in their ongoing ability to distinguish themselves from others in the different fields of science, medicine, business, art and engineering and architecture.
